Er kommt in der Nolla vor, ist selten schiefrig, sondern meist massig und sehr hart und zäh, was auf Quarzgehalt hinweist (siehe auch die häufigen schönen, weissen Quarzadern). Die schwarzen Bestandteile sind kohlig (Graphit). Pyrit ist ein weit verbreitetes Mineral. Charakteristisch für den Pyrit sind der metallische Glanz und die messinggelbe Farbe. Die häufigste Kristallform des Pyrits ist der Würfel.
