Dieser sehr spezielle Stein wurde vor Jahren im Val Nandro gefunden. Er wird nach der Ortschaft Gabbro, südöstlich von Livorno benannt. Es handelt sich um ein ziemlich grobkörniges Tiefengestein.Wie der Granit ist der Gabbro durch langsames Erstarren aus dem Magma (Schmelzfluss) entstanden, aber mit einem anderen Mineralgehalt. Hauptmineral ist Plagioklas (Feldspat). Bei diesem Stein ist der Plagioklas sog. saussuritisiert, d.h. durch Zersetzung zum Teil in Olivin umgewandelt, was ihm seine grüne Farbe verleiht. Der Diallag, eine Abart des Kettensilikats Pyroxen, ist hier graublätterig ausgebildet.
