Vor rund 200 Jahren wurde dieses Gestein, das aus der Gegend zwischen dem Saaser- und dem Mattertal stammt, auch als Schweizer Jade benannt. Den Allalin-Gabbro haben als erste die Menschen der Pfahlbauerzeit (Neolithikum) im westlichen Mittelland entdeckt. Viele dieser Gesteinsblöcke wurden während der Eiszeit von den Gletschern vom Oberwallis ins Mittelland transportiert. Das auffälligste Mineral ist der leuchtend grüne Omphazit neben dem jadeähnlichen Saussurit.
