Das Vorkommen an Granit im Habkerntal ist etwas ganz Besonderes.

 

Der Habkerngranit ist ein grobkörniges magmatisches Gestein, durchsetzt mit auffallend grossen, rosafarbenen Alkalifeldspäten. Daneben sind weissliche, graue, grünliche und gelbliche Quarzkörner und schwarzer Glimmer erkennbar. Die Schönheit des Habkerngranits kommt geschliffen und poliert besonders voll zur Geltung. Altersbestimmungen des Habkerngranits ergaben ein permisches Alter von 270 Millionen Jahren. Das Gebirge, welchem er entstammt, existiert nicht mehr. Gegenüber dem Dorf Habkern (Bern) liegt der grösste Findling Europas. Der aus Habkerngranit bestehende Block geniesst unter Geologen Weltruhm (und unter Esoterikern gilt er als Kraftort).
